9 Ways to Use Your Starter Kit Oils

June 22, 2018 by Cady Sinks Leave a Comment

Thinking about a Young Living starter kit but aren’t sure how to use the oils?  I got you girl.  Here’s a list of my 9 favorite ways to use the starter kit oils:

  1. Lavender + Stress Away in the diffuser for the best night’s sleep. (My second favorite nighttime blend is Lavender + Frankincense.)
  2. Lavender applied to soothe skin irritations like bug bites.
  3. Citrus Fresh + Lemon in the diffuser for a fun and happy kitchen.
  4. Lavender in mascara to promote longer, fuller lashes.
  5. Peppermint applied to the head, temples & back of the neck after a night out. Everyone knows ginger is a natural remedy for nausea but did you know that peppermint is as well?
  6. Lemon in water as a natural detox + flavorful energy boost. Use a straw to stir it or add ice and give it a shake.
  7. Frankincense applied neat to blemishes and fine lines.
  8. Stress Away on wrists throughout the day to keep things zen AF.
  9. Thieves + Frankincense + Lemon in the diffuser to ward off colds and germs!

The best part about of the kit is the community that comes with it.  So if you’ve been on the fence, make that jump and come oil with us!  Click here to get started.

Hair and other musings

One of the many ways in which we save money these days is by giving the boys hair cuts.  It didn’t start this way.  For Aidan’s first hair cut and then the proceeding two years of hair cuts, we took him to a hair salon.  Honestly, calling it a hair salon is generous but you understand where I’m going.  We paid $16 or so per cut plus tip.  Until one weekend when I took him in, showed the woman a photo of what I wanted, and she proceeded to give him a hair cut that looked nothing like my photo.

After that, I took myself to Target and bought a set of clippers vowing to learn how to cut his hair.  The first hair cut proved I had no business cutting hair.  Seriously.  That shit involves geometry, knowledge of clippers, use of scissors near a unpredictable child’s face, and the knowledge that whatever you mess up, your child has to deal with in public – often times with you.

Obviously Alan took the clippers, fixed my mistakes and we have never looked back.

Just the other weekend after Alan finished cutting Aidan’s hair, Bash took it upon himself to yell at us and then try to climb up on the stool where his brother had just been sitting.  After a few minutes of trying to save his life and also beg him to stop yelling, we figured out that what he wanted was his own trim.  He sat perfectly still.  I tried not to cry.

Those curls are going to go soon.  They are a sweet reminder of my tiny, velcro baby who is slowly but surely growing into a boy and breaking his momma’s heart along the way just to make it grow bigger.  Time may move faster than I want it to but this moment has been frozen and documented, shared and enjoyed, and I will clutch to it until the day we take off those baby curls.

The Best of 2015

IMG_2467I had the pleasure and incredible opportunity to capture some very special moments this year.  I took thousands of photos for clients over the last 12 months.  Here is a small sampling of my favorites.

Thank you so very much to all of the clients who asked me to be part of their lives and tell their story.  It has been an honor.

Dog Days

Dog Days

We are in the last few dog days of summer.  This summer we have been to the lake, pool, park, library, visited family, visited friends, and just simply run amok.  Aside from dropping the water activities nothing will really change come the fall.  We will just be running amok in different places.

Rather than just let this month slide into the next month, I made myself a list of goals.  Simple but achievable, here they are:

  • Read: three books
  • Home: plants outside
  • Knit: shawl & socks
  • Document: goals & photos
  • Personal biz development: ??

Just kidding on the last one.  That’s a cliff hanger for the two people who read this blog.  I have two projects I’m currently working on as a way to foster my small side businesses (my etsy shop and my photography work).  These are often slow moving because there’s the full time job, there’s the motherhood/wifey job, there the process of avoiding any cleaning and then there is the actual cleaning that eventually happens.  So when I have an extra thirty minutes – and the required energy – to devote to my small side business, I have two specific goals to help me continue moving forward.  They are only a couple inches forward but progress nonetheless.

Aidan says

Toddlers

In an attempt to catalog some of the hilarious things Aidan says at this age, I present to you this compilation of toddler comments.

Me: Aidan do you want a couple more [insert anything including milk, food, dessert]?

Aidan: No, just all of dem.

Me: Are you hot honey?

Aidan: No, I’m warm.

Aidan: Your pants grey?

Me: No, my pants are blue.  These are blue jeans.

Aidan: Blue jams!

Me: Are you going to say happy birthday to pop?

Aidan: No, too big.

Me: [Thinking, oh dear Lord, that’s exactly what my dad wanted to hear on his birthday.] Aidan, you can’t say happy birthday?!

Aidan: Cake!!

….. at least priorities are clear.
